Men's Coats for TravelThe Strike Gold SGJ50S 15oz Slub Grey Weft Type II Denim Jacket

Based on an early 1950s vintage version of Levi's 507XX Type 2 denim jacket, The Strike Gold has meticulously reproduced this iconic piece using a top-notch fabric woven with super short cotton staples for the weft. The term 'staple length' refers to the average length of fibers within a sample of a cotton species. Longer staples generally produce softer, hairier fabrics, while shorter staples create a fantastically rugged and uneven touch. The Strike Gold achieved this unique texture through super slow spinning of the thread in the shuttle loom. Despite its density, the fabric remains remarkably soft and comfortable from the first wear. The grey color of the weft adds a unique character to the fabric, enhancing its overall appeal.

This jacket boasts premium features, including a deerskin leather patch and custom-engraved iron buttons that enhance its vintage aesthetic. It maintains the original Type II fit style with ample room for layering and features adjustable waist cinches with a button tab for added versatility.

Despite being a Japanese jacket, we find the sizing of this Type II to be more Western than Japanese. If you usually wear a size M in American jackets, you'll find a suitable fit with this jacket in size 40 (M). However, as always, we recommend consulting our size chart for the perfect fit. It is unsanforized but one washed, so there will be no shrinkage.

The Strike Gold is undoubtedly one of the benchmark brands when we speak of Japanese denim. Established in Kojima, in Okayama Prefecture, the Hamamoto family has been focusing all its efforts for more than 10 years on producing denim, sweatshirts, shirts and belts of the very highest quality one can find today. Their denim fabrics, unique in the world for their texture, composition, incredible irregularity, stiffness, roughness and character, delight denim devotees around the planet.
